| As a result of a
year-long construction/renovation project, Temple Jeremiah now
hosts a beautifully restored sanctuary,
spacious foyer, lounge and coffee bar area, glass-enclosed
gift shop and social hall
for your next celebration (see Facilities
Rental). The Marshall B. and Viola
R. Schwimmer Library has been renovated and offers a wide
range of books on religious and contemporary subjects for you
to peruse at the temple or to check out. Religious
School features a separate canopied entry with the school
office situated immediately inside for greater security and
accessibility. Our inspiring art pieces
have been restored to our walls since construction. Overall,
the improvements have resulted in a safer, more comfortable
and beautiful home to worship, socialize and study.
But Temple Jeremiahs goals go beyond the aesthetic.
Fire protection, including a new sprinkler system, and security
safeguards have been installed. The south parking lot has
been expanded to almost double its size and features enhanced
lighting, more efficient traffic design and improved drop-off
and pick-up areas.
Our facilities are available for Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, weddings
and other celebrations as well as meetings and social get-togethers.
See Facilities Rental to learn
more.
Accessibility
Temple
Jeremiah took the additional step of making the entire building
accessible and, at the same time, unobtrusive. From the handicapped
accessible entryways, the bima and the reading table
in the main sanctuary to the Tarshish Lounge, elevator, bathroom
facilities, door handles, public telephone, light switches
and vending machines, Temple Jeremiah has attained its goal
of being an inclusive synagogue, allowing all to fully participate
in its religious services and programs.
New Trier Township Award
Temple Jeremiah's handicapped accessible improvements earned
it the New Trier Township Excellence
for Service to Persons with Disabilities Award in 2003.
Pathways Awareness Foundation
Award
In
2006 Temple Jeremiah received the Pathways Awareness Foundation's
Open Hearts Award for its "outstanding efforts to provide
access and inclusion in worship." Chicago area congregations
were considered not only for their efforts to create physical
buildings accessible to all but also for creating environments
that respect and nurture the gift of individuals of every
ability. "Each of the Open Hearts Award winning congregations
welcomes members of diverse abilities into active participation
in worship, fellowship and ministries," Pathways acknowledges.
With the help of the Pathways grant, Temple Jeremiah was
able to install handicapped accessible doors at its south
entry in 2007, making our house of worship completely accessible
to all.
Pathways
Awareness Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness about
the benefits of early detection and early therapy for infants
with motor delays, as well as providing information on the
importance of inclusion in all aspects of life. Its "Open
Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors" program provides information
and educational materials on inclusion in worship. To learn
