About Temple Jeremiah

House of Worship

Sabbath services at Temple Jeremiah are held every Friday evening and Saturday morning. The warmth of worship encourages enthusiastic participation. Sermons, lectures and discussions, family worship services and Sabbath dinners are among the ways we greet the Sabbath in the Rabbi Robert D. Schreibman Sanctuary or the Joan and Stanley Golder Chapel.

Worship services generally take place as follows (times may change so check Worship Services & Torah Study Schedule to confirm dates and times).

You are welcome to worship with us during Shabbat, festivals and all holiday services.

To learn more about the temple's worship services, Religious School, adult education or special events, come to a program and experience firsthand what we have to offer, or contact Fern at the temple office.

Friday Evening Worship

Tot Shabbat services are held at 6:30 pm on the first Friday of the month from September through June for children of non-reading age and their families.

Torah for Tots are held at 10:00 am the third Saturday of the month.

Family Shabbat services are traditionally held at 7:30 pm the third Friday of the month from fall to summer.

Erev Shabbat services are traditionally held at 8:00 pm the first, second, fourth and fifth Fridays of the month from fall to summer.

Kabbalat Shabbat services, a shortened version of Shabbat worship, begins with a nosh at 6:00 pm, followed by a worship service at 6:30 pm, and takes place the second Friday of the month and in the summer.

Saturday Morning Worship

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Service

Designated Saturdays

When a student is called to the Torah as a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the Saturday morning worship is typically held at either 9:00 am or 10:45 am. If a double Bar/Bat Mitzvah is taking place at the 9:00 am service, the later service is held at 11:00 am.

Alternative Worship Service

Designated Saturdays

Temple Jeremiah has begun a new schedule of worship on Saturdays when a student is not called to the Torah. The worship will consist of:

8:30 am - Shabbat Service with Torah Reading

9:00 - 10:00 am - Torah Study

10:00 - 10:05 am - Aleinu and Kaddish, followed by Kiddush

This new schedule of Saturday morning worship has been initiated in response to a survey sent to 100 congregants as well as recommendations by the Spiritual Life Committee.

See Rabbi Cohen's letter for further details.

The Center for Learning

Continuing Education

An ongoing and innovative program of adult education brings to the temple outstanding lay and religious speakers, as well as our own Rabbis, and established timely discussion groups and forums on current events.

Comprised of a fall and spring "mini-series" and several Sunday programs, continuing education courses cover topics such as Jewish life cycles, introduction to Judaism, beginning Hebrew, Hebrew through prayer, conversational Hebrew, adult B'nai Mitzvah class and Jewish musical heritage.

Temple Jeremiah is now partnered with the Dawn Schuman Institute and the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, allowing us to offer an even broader range of programs to congregants and the community at large.

See our Winter/Spring 5768 - 2008 Adult Education Brochure with calendar and registration form (click to view and download a pdf version* or contact the temple office) to learn about and sign up for upcoming adult education programs.

Religious and Hebrew Education

Click 2008/09 School Registration Forms to download your materials for the upcoming school year.

Religious School is held in two sessions on Sunday mornings from 9:00 am - 10:45 am and 11:15 am - 1:00 pm. Our goal is to have our children learn and understand the rich heritage, culture, history, ethics and beliefs of our religion and our people. Seventh, eighth, and ninth grades have special schedules. Please check with the school office.

Hebrew School is offered Monday or Wednesday afternoons from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm. Those students who elect to become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah are required to complete a minimum of four years of Hebrew school as well as fulfill additional reading and service projects.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a year of intellectual and emotional examination culminating in a reaffirmation of faith.

Temple Volunteer Opportunities

A wide range of opportunities are available to get involved in temple life - from helping out occasionally at temple to being a Mentor to a new family to serving on a committee, our Center for Learning, Caring Community or the Board.

In addition, see Social Action (below) to learn about other ways you can lend a hand either by volunteering or making a financial contribution.

Sharing & Caring

When you or a family member is in the hospital or experiencing some other difficulty, let the temple know by contacting Phyllis Burg. Too often we find out about illnesses, crises and hospitalizations after they occur. This is a missed opportunity for the calls and visits we would like to share. Please let us know if there is a concern in your family or another congregant’s family (with their permission). We need your help in order to offer ours.
