Shavuot at Temple Jeremiah

Erev Shavuot: Saturday, May 26, 6:30 p.m. Dinner, 7:15 p.m. Program
Join us for dinner at 6:30 p.m. for only $12 per person. (Please RSVP for dinner to Kathy@templejeremiah.org or online). Following dinner, there will be a program entitled: Strangers in a Strange Land: America? The Book of Ruth, read on Shavuot, explores themes of belonging, being the stranger in a foreign land, and the immigrant experience. Based on these these themes, for our Shavuot program this year we will be viewing and discussing the film Hungry Hearts, based on the classic short stories of Anzia Yezierska. Hungry Hearts is a silent movie filmed on location on the Lower East Side of New York in 1922,  the first film produced in the United States about the American Jewish experience. This bittersweet movie captures the hopes and hardships of Jewish immigrants in the New World.  As American Jews, do we still define ourselves by the immigrant experience? Some generations later, does this common Jewish immigrant experience continue to affect our identity, and how?

Shavuot: Sunday, May 27, 9:30 a.m. Breakfast, 10 a.m. Worship & Yizkor
Join us Sunday morning for a yummy breakfast followed by Worship and Yizkor.
