| The Feed-A-Family
program, launched by the Social Action Committee in 2004/05
with the cooperation of Brotherhood and Sisterhood, needs your
help. We are looking for volunteers to share their
generosity and continue this program. If you've been looking
for an easy, family-oriented social action project, here's your
chance to get involved.
The ARK recommends a needy Jewish family for Temple Jeremiah
to "adopt." Your commitment involves shopping and
delivering food once a year (unless you want to do it more
often). You can split the month with another family if you
wish. Although this project knows no age boundary, it is an
ideal project for families with young children, helping to
extend their understanding of the ritual of tzedakah.
One of our congregants recently delived food to a family
whose daughter has cancer. She later received a message from
the mother saying how it was the first time her daughter felt
like eating after chemotherapy - with all the fresh fruits,
vegetables and meats. "This took two hours out of my
Sunday, but the feeling of helping someone in need stayed
with me much longer," the congregant writes.
This project is unique in that it provides the opportunity
to physically and financially help the poor. Estimated cost
would be $75 to $100 (unless you split the cost with another
family). For additional information contact either Mindy
Kurtz.
