Haiti Relief

Please Give Generously

A severe earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale devastated Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. This is the most severe earthquake to hit that impoverished country in 200 years. The death toll is expected to reach tens of thousands. Schools, hospitals and thousands of homes have been destroyed, leaving over three million people without adequate food, shelter, health care and basic infrastructure. Countless people have been digging through the debris with their bare hands, looking for traces of their loved ones. In addition, the presidential palace, a major hotel and the UN headquarters have collapsed, leaving hundreds buried in the rubble.

How You Can Help

Sponsor a Haitian Orphan at Hope Village

Hope Village (Vilaj Espwa) in Les Cayes, Haiti, is home and school to over 600 abandoned children, but dozens if not hundreds more from Port-au-Prince are expected. Their food and medical supplies nearly depleted, Hope Village needs our help to feed, shelter, counsel and educate these newly-orphaned children. Become a monthly sponsor now.

Double chai ($36) supports one child for a month. Visit Free the Kids to become a sponsor and provide a future for a child.

A humanitarian trip to Hope Village is being planned for early summer (conditions permitting). If you are interested, sign up at our table during the temple's Purim Celebration on Sunday, February 28 or email Stephanie Cohen.
