Ernie Bloch Memorial Tzedakah Box
The
next time you are at temple, please give generously to
the Ernie Bloch tzedakah box in the lobby. Dedicated
to
the memory of long-time congregant Ernie Bloch and his lifetime
commitment to tzedakah, the box provides donations
to an array of charitable causes.
As noted on the box, "...do what is just and right in
the land." - Jeremiah 33:15
June Donations - Will go to Dress for Success, an organization which promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive.

Tzedakah Boxes
A series of donation boxes
are available in the temple lobby, each one adorned with an
original work of art created by a congregant. Please bring your
food, toys and clothing donations every time you come to temple.

Haiti Earthquake Relief
In the wake of the horrific earthquake that hit the island
of Haiti on January 12, 2010, several Jewish organizations
have established funds to provide emergency relief. In addition,
you can sponsor a Haitian orphan living in Hope Village.

The Jewish Federation is working closely with Chile's Jewish
community in
the wake of the devastating earthquake on February 27, 2010.

Relief
A variety of organizations are continuing to offer assistance
in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. In addition, learn about

Save Darfur Now
Congregants and the public
at large are encouraged to make donations and write letters
to government representatives, the media and relief organizations
in response to the slaughter and famine in Sudan.

Your Cell Phones to SHALVA
Be part of this unique fundraising opportunity for SHALVA,
an agency fighting domestic abuse in Jewish homes. For every
cell phone you donate, SHALVA receives a cash donation for its crisis counseling services.
A contribution box is set up in the temple lobby.

Feed the Homeless
Second Sunday of the month during the school year
October

All are encouraged to participate. As part of Temple Jeremiah's
50th anniversary mission, the temple made over 1500 lunches
during 2009/10 for the poor.

Feed-A-Family
The Social Action Committee, Brotherhood and Sisterhood,
in collaboration with the ARK, buy groceries and visit a
needy
Jewish family. Volunteers are urgently needed.

created a job bank containing forms for job seekers and

businesses seeking employees to complete in order to connect
with one another.

As-needed basis
If you have lost your job, are about to lose your job or want to change
jobs, schedule a session with experts in the HR industry.
The group is now offering counseling for college graduates looking for employment.

Temple Jeremiah Sends Fire Truck to Israel
As part of an international effort to support the Friends
of Israel Firefighters, Temple Jeremiah raised money
in 2008 for a mini-pumper to protect Israeli

This organization offers a wide range of programs and services
as well as volunteer opportunities.

Sister City -
Yerevan, Armenia
Temple Jeremiah has adopted the Jewish community of Yerevan,
Armenia in the former Soviet Union as its Sister City. The
1500 Jewish families who live in Yerevan
depend on our financial support for survival. For further

The Penny Project
Over 100,000 Pennies Collected
Temple Jeremiah collected over 100,000 pennies in 2007
and 2008 as part of its Penny Project, which served as a
reminder of
the
six million who died in the Holocaust. The project was held
over an 18 month period in commemoration of
Yom HaShoah, Holocaust
Remembrance
Day.

Interfaith
Housing Center of the Northern Suburbs
The Interfaith Housing Center works for housing justice
through services and advocacy, including homesharing, foreclosure
prevention counseling, education and advocacy.

Northfield Township Food Pantry
Thanks to the generous donations of our congregants and
community organizations, the Northfield Township Food Pantry
distributes
groceries and clothes to
our less fortunate neighbors in the northern suburbs.

North American Conference on
Ethiopian Jewry
Our school's 2003/04 social action campaign focused on Ethiopian
Jewry.
With the help of school children, parents and the congregation
at large, the temple hosted the Midwest premier of a photo
exhibit on Ethiopian Jewry by famed photographer Win Robins,
sold Ethiopian-made products, heard presentations from activists,
including NACOEJ founder Barbara Ribakove Gordon, and held
an Ethiopian Shabbat.
These efforts culminated in 2005 with Temple Jeremiah receiving
the prestigious Irving J. Fain Award for Excellence in Social
Justice Programming. |
