A percentage of the money we receive for our programs goes directly to MAZON:
A Jewish Response to Hunger.
In addition, Temple Jeremiah joins congregations and organizations
across the country asking people to generously donate to this
worthwhile organization.
Temple Jeremiah recently received thanks from MAZON for its
donations of food and toiletry items during Sisterhood's
High Holy Day Food Drive.
Since 1985, MAZON has provided food, help and hope to hungry
people of all faiths and backgrounds. Donations from the Jewish
community are allocated to the most effective hunger relief
organizations in the U.S., Israel and poor countries worldwide.
MAZON was founded to build a bridge between Jews who enjoy
the blessings of abundance and the millions of children and
adults who are hungry or live at the edge of hunger each day.
This includes 33 million Americans. Since its founding, MAZON
has granted more than $30 million to emergency food providers,
food banks, advocacy groups which seek long-term solutions
to hunger and groups providing multiple services to low-income
individuals and families.
Partner synagogues encourage congregants to donate 3 percent
of the cost of their life-cycle celebrations to MAZON. More
than 75,000 Jews donate to MAZON's hunger relief efforts annually.
Temple Jeremiah's Rabbi Cohen received a letter in May, 2007
from MAZON Vice President Barbara H. Bergen thanking our congregants
for their generous contributions during its annual Passover
appeal. The organization is one of the country’s largest
private funders of anti-hunger programs. ”MAZON’s
success is your success. Clearly, without you, your members
and affiliates, MAZON could not exist, not could it ever have
evolved into today’s premier Jewish organization fighting
hunger here, In Israel and in impoverished countries nationwide.”
