Jeremiahans Partner with
Community for Pre-Thanksgiving Feast
Greater Bethlehem Healing Church hosted an early Thanksgiving
celebration for about 450 people in need for which 23
Temple Jeremiah families prepared over 60 pies of different
flavors. The temple's Social Action Committee dedicated
part of its budget towards providing enough turkey and
other “fixin’s” to feed this large
crowd AND 36 Jeremiahans and friends helped prepare,
serve and clean-up at the church. Our volunteers represented
our Caring Community, teen InterAct social action program,
Sisterhood and numerous families who came together to
make it a blessed Thanksgiving for these wonderful friends
of ours on the South Side.
If you are looking for ways to help others celebrate
during the holiday season (or any time) please look
into volunteering with: The
Ark and The Uptown Café, Howard
Community Center, the New
Trier Food Pantry, Northfield
Food Pantry, Deerfield
Food Pantry or go to Temple Jeremiah's list of Tikkun
Olam resources where you will find an easy to navigate
list of over 120 organizations with whom our congregation
partners. |

Tzedakah Fair, Bone Marrow
Registration Drive & Stuffed Animal Drive
Representatives from
Chai Lifeline, American Friends of the Israeli Defense
Force, the ARK, Jewish National Fund and the Jewish
Children's Bureau were on hand to talk about their
organizations and explain why our financial support
is so critical.
In addition, as a grand finale mitzvah, children brought
in small, new stuffed animals for donation to an Israeli
children's
hospital.
Bone Marrow Drive - One of our B'nai
Mitzvah candidates, David Pfeifer, hosted
a Bone Marrow Drive during the fair. Over 6000 men,
women and children with leukemia, lymphoma and other
life-threatening illnesses rely daily on the National
Marrow Donor Program. You can help by joining the registry
as a donor or by donating money to cover the cost of
tissue typing. To learn more, visit www.marrow.org. |

Blood & Bone Marrow Drive
In response to the dire need for blood, Temple
Jeremiah, in cooperation with LifeSource, hosts an annual blood drive. This year's program also included a bone marrow drive. The drive generated 31 pints of blood, the most we have collected since 2004, and will be used to potentially save the lives of 93 people.
Temple Jeremiah received a letter from Michelle Ireland
of LifeSource thanking the many congregants and community
members who made
this
drive
a success. "Please extend our gratitude to everyone who
gave unselfishly of themselves to help others - they
are our heroes!" she writes. |
